Diversity and Inclusion in Physics

- Social, Networking & Support
- Student Welfare and Wellbeing
- Policies against Discrimination
The Physics Department believes that diversity produces world-class teaching, research, and an environment that is representative of the international physics community. We want students to feel that we respect, embrace and value their differences. It is equally important for all our students to feel a sense of belonging within the Department irrespective of their protected characteristics or background. Thus, we are collectively dedicated to creating an environment where everyone feels listened to and most importantly valued.
Here, you will find:
- Social, networking, and support groups available in the Physics Department and the wider Imperial College London.
- Where to contact for student welfare and wellbeing.
- Current plans and policies in place to improve diversity and inclusion in the Physics Department and the wider Imperial.
Women in Physics: https://www.imperial.ac.uk/physics/about/women-in-physics/students/
The Imperial College Women in Physics Society aims to create a welcoming, inclusive, and supportive network for minorities in physics.
Through a series of social, educational, and academic events we hope to promote a strong sense of community within the department. These events connect undergraduates, postgraduates, post-docs and staff members together to provide opportunities for friendship, support, mentorship, and access to role models. Some of the events we have organised in the past include lunches, bike rides, cocktail evenings, outreach opportunities, professional development courses, and seminars.
By creating an empowered cohort of women, we hope to increase the number of minorities who continue on to have successful careers in physics. We are excited about a future where representation is equal at every level of the physics career path, from undergraduate all the way up to the professor.

Studying at university should be both a challenge and an enjoyable experience. We want to encourage and support our students in being mindful of their wellbeing and, if necessary, to use the welfare support services provided by the Department and the College.
